PERMANENT RESIDENCY FOR EU FAMILY MEMBERS
If you have been legally residing in the Czech Republic for at least 2 years and have been the family member of an EU or EEA citizen for at least 1 year out of those 2 years (in which case you resided in the same household for that 1 year), then you are entitled to apply for a permanent residence permit so long as you remain their family member on the date of lodging your application.*
The EU or EEA citizen, from whom you derive your right to reside in the Czech Republic as an EU family member, must be either:
- a Czech citizen who has maintained a registered permanent address in the Czech Republic for at least 1 year up until the date of lodging your PR application, during which you were also their EU family member, or
- a Czech citizen who has maintained a registered permanent address in the Czech Republic for at least 1 year up until the date of lodging your PR application, during which you were also their EU family member, or
- an EU/EEA citizen who has had permanent residence status and held that status for at least 1 year up until the date of lodging your PR application, during which you were also their EU/EEA family member, or
- a British national subject to the Brexit agreement who has had permanent residence status and held that status for at least 1 year up until the date of lodging your PR application, during which you were also their EU/EEA family member pursuant to the Brexit agreement.
Soon you can really start feeling like a Czech local! 🍻🍺 Na zdraví!
Documents needed to apply:
- a valid passport
- your family member’s valid EU/EEA passport or EU/EEA national identity card (if your family member is a Czech citizen, then their Czech national identity card (“občanský průkaz” or “občanka”) with their permanent address listed on the back of the card)
- proof of 2 years of continuous temporary residence (for example, your current temporary residence permit as an EU family member)
- a document or document(s) confirming that you have been a family member of an EU/EEA citizen for at least 1 year out of the last 2 years (marriage certificate, civil/registered partnership certificate, birth certificate, affidavits from friends attesting to the stability of your long-term relationship, etc.)
- 2 passport photos in EU size (35 mm x 45 mm)
- proof of accommodation (rental agreement, ownership deed, or accommodation confirmation form)
- the administrative fee paid in Czech currency stamps (kolkové známky or “kolky”) in the amount of 200 CZK
- a power of attorney for us to represent you throughout the process (we will provide this)
(*Please Note: If you have not been an EU/EEA family member for at least 1 year but in total you have been legally residing in the Czech Republic for at least 5 years and are currently an EU/EEA family member regardless of how long, then you are also entitled to apply for a permanent residence permit as the family member of an EU/EEA citizen. The requirements will be similar to those listed above, except instead of proof of 2 years of continuous temporary residence it will be 5 years and instead of proof of being an EU/EEA family member for at least 1 year there is no requirement of length.)
